Expectations of PreSquad swimmers:

An ideal guideline age is 6-9 years old.

Technique and swimming skills

  • Continue to develop all 4 strokes and continue to develop key race skills.
  • There is emphasis on preparation for competition.
  • Begin to learn FINA competition rules.

Attendance

  • Each week, we recommend attendance of all sessions to make as much progress as possible. However, by attending 2 out of 3 sessions a week you can still achieve a high level of progress.

Attitude and approach to training

  • Swimmers are expected to be punctual and arrive on poolside 10 minutes prior to the session starting.
  • Come to each session, willing to listen, learn and work with the coaching team.
  • Swimmers must be responsible for their own kit.
  • Swimmers must consistently give 100% effort in their training.

Training capacity

  • Squad members should be able to cover between 800m – 1200m in a training session.
  • Begin to independently complete some training sessions, completing small blocks of swimming with large rests, whilst keeping good technique throughout.

Lifestyle and training management

  • Regular weekly attendance.
  • Swimmers are encouraged to communicate with their coaches and create a two-way professional relationship.
