An ideal guideline age is 9+ years old
Technique and swimming skills
- Complete familiarity with the competition rules and regulations.
- Adding in endurance and speed training.
- Monitoring progression using test sets as part of the ongoing training programme.
- Building on technique and efficiency of strokes, starts, and turns.
- Begin to understand how to fully utilise the underwater starts and turns, e.g 3-4 fast powerful kicks off the start and turn.
Attendance
- Each week, we recommend attendance of all sessions to make as much progress as possible however by attending 3 out of 6 sessions a week you can still achieve a high level of progress.
- You are expected to attend Club Championships and begin to enter external open meets.
Attitude and approach to training
- Arrive to training at least 10 minutes prior to the start time.
- Complete the RMAP / stretching routine at training and competitions.
- Swimmers must show a positive attitude and discipline when around the pool environment.
- Swimmers must be responsible for their own hydration with a brief understanding of their nutrition.
Training capacity
- Begin to understand the fundamentals of training and how it impacts your competitive performance.
- Building on your ability to independently complete training sets, begin to complete slightly longer blocks of work, developing standards of technique and race skills throughout.
Lifestyle and training management
- Learn the process of goal setting and working towards objectives.
- Begin to consider how you’re training inside of the pool is affected by any actions outside of the pool environment, such as how you sleep and how you eat.
- Complete a logbook and reflect on past sessions.
Equipment expectations: All kit must be named
- Two pairs of goggles
- A Dorking hat
- Kickboard
- Short fins
- Pull-buoy
- Water bottle
- Snorkel
- Paddles
Please Note:
All swimmers that are Primary or Junior School age must have a responsible adult present for all training sessions, and the swimmer must know who they are if it's not the parent, in case of emergency.
