Shrimps
Coached by Stevie
Shrimps can swim a minimum of 10m.
We swim on Thursdays 6-00 PM to 6-30 PM at Dorking Sports
Centre: please arrive by 5-55 and wait for your teacher.
Shrimps has a team of qualified teachers: Stevie, Donna, Carrie
and Paula who are ably assisted by Senior Squad swimmers Dougie and
Rosie. There are lots of additional helpers, many of whom are
working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award.
In Shrimps the teaching focuses on development of good technique
on front and back in an atmosphere of disciplined fun: children are
encouraged to be aware of safe behaviour in and around water. We
aim to build confidence in the water: first in the small pool,
progressing to the main pool where, ultimately, children will swim
full lengths in the top group. As well as working on their strokes
children will have lots of fun with flotation, rotation and
submersion; the top groups will develop confidence in deep water
and this will include diving.
Swimmers move between groups according to their ability and
personal progression. Accomplished "Top Shrimps" move to Penguins,
generally once they have attained their 50m or 100m distance award.
In Penguins training increases to 1 1/2 hours per week: please
see the Penguin Squad
information.
