How to Join

Please contact our membership secretary, Ros Bailey to discuss current membership options and club fees.

Applicants should be aware, before completing the application form that Dorking Swimming Club is a competitive swimming club and that it's members will be expected to compete at a level appropriate to their ability.

After an application has been received a trial will be arranged with the Head Coach who will assess the swimmers ability and squad placement. If a vacancy exists then the applicant will be invited to join the club.

Which squad suits you best ?

Dorking Swimming Club is structured into a number of swimming squads according to a swimmer's age and availability to train regularly at the different squad ability levels. We have a Development Section for the youngest swimmers and then a full range of competitive and recreational squads for all ages so that each swimmer may be offered professional training in groups with others of a similar age and ability.

Development section

Applications to join the Minnows or Shrimps squads will be referred to the squad coach Stevie Carter and applications to join Penguins to Sheena Bassett. Parents are invited to discuss the aims of the development section and other aspects of joining the Club with these coaches and complete an application form (see 'Download' page). The coach will discuss the most appropriate squad for your child and confirm acceptance of a place to the Membership Secretary. Parents will need to complete an ASA membership registration form and a DSC Medical Form before they are able to participate in swimming sessions. The Membership Secretary will invoice parents for training and Club membership fees.

Competitive Squads for the under 18s

New members seeking to join one of these competitive squads are initially invited to register for a swimming trial with the Membership Secretary for which a non-refundable fee of £10 is charged at the time of registering. The Membership Secretary will liaise with the coaches of the appropriate competitive squads to arrange a trial. Successful candidates who are subsequently invited to join the Club will have the trial fee deducted from their first membership fee provided the swimmer joins the Club within one month of being invited to do so. Parents must complete the DSC Medical Form and pay the fee before any trial may take place.

After the trial, the coach will discuss with parents the most appropriate squad for their child and notify the Membership Secretary. Parents will then receive an invitation to join the Club from the Membership Secretary and an invoice for Club membership and training fees.

TeenSwim

We are pleased to announce the introduction of TeenSwim from March 2005 to encourage new members into the Club. TeenSwim meets for one hour on Wednesdays and is coached by Phil Sears. This is a recreational, non-competitive group for swimmers in the 13 to 18 year age group. Places in this group are limited and enquiries should initially be made to the Membership Secretary.

Masters

The Club has a competitive Masters section coached by Phil Sears which has two squads, M2 Masters, offering two training sessions per week and M4 Masters with four sessions per week. Anyone wishing to swim with the Club as a Master is invited to contact the Membership Secretary as above.

Medical Forms

No swimmer may participate in swimming sessions run by the Club unless a DSC Medical Form has been completed and returned to the Membership Secretary and accepted by Sue Mitchell, the Club's Welfare Officer.

Medical forms may be downloaded here or may be obtained from Sue Mitchell or Ros Bailey

The attention of all parents and swimmers is drawn to the ASA regulations on taking regular medication which may contain steroids or other illegal substances. This particularly applies to those suffering from asthma and using prescribed medication. Further details may be found on the ASA web site http://www.britishswimming.org. If applicable, swimmers must complete an ASA Medication Declaration Form and return it directly to the ASA.
