for general information.
Update as at 20th May
We are now in the final stages of organization for the Club
Sprints on Saturday 22nd May.
Entry for spectators will be £2, including programme, and we will
be holding a raffle. The new, highly popular, DSC
wristbands will also be available to purchase during the evening
for £1. For swimmers age 8 and over, the entry form for our
next Club Championships - "the hundreds" - will be available to
take away on the night.
Remember the car park is pay and display on a Saturday
evening!
Very many thanks to all those parents who have volunteered to help
out on the night. We still need a couple of runners, an ideal
job for a younger sibling with sweets as a reward at the end!
This involves taking the results slips from the referees at the
deep end to the results processing area at the shallow end, so is
not suitable for the very young but if you are able to help please
let your squad rep know or email Carole Chaplin directly (cc
above).
Whether this is your first competition or you've swum in so many
that you have lost count please take a few minutes to read the
information below as this will help ensure the evening runs
smoothly.
1. When you arrive you must sign in at the registration desk
which will be in the lobby at the front entrance to the sports
centre (near the usual location of the club desk) from
5.30pm. You must put a tick to confirm you wish to swim the
events you entered. If you no longer wish to swim you must
put an "X" next to this event.
All swimmers MUST be signed-in by 6pm - IF YOU DO NOT SIGN IN YOU
WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE ENTRY LIST.
2. After you have registered please wait to be given
permission to enter the changing rooms. Please do not go in
through the main turnstiles. Spectators will have access to
the seating area (via the usual club night door) from 6pm.
(Only Officials, poolside helpers and coaches may enter before this
time).
3. Swimmers must use lockers wherever possible. Do not
leave bags or other belongings in the changing rooms.
4. Swimmers are reminded that in line with the FINA
regulations:
- competitors must wear only one swimsuit in one
or two pieces.
- swimwear for men shall not extend above
the navel nor below the knee
- swimwear for women shall not cover the
neck, extend past the shoulder, nor shall extend below knee.
- All swimsuits shall be made from textile
materials.
5. When you are changed go to the seating area indicated for
your age group. Stewards and coaches will be on hand to
answer any questions and make sure you are in the right place for
your race.
6. Swimmers should remain poolside for the duration of the
meet and must tell a steward if they wish to leave their allocated
seating area. PARENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED POOLSIDE and are
requested not to encourage their children to visit them in the
spectator area (we don't want them to miss their race!)
7. Medals will be available for collection on the
evening. Please remember that it takes a little while to
process the results of each event and we will post results in the
changing and spectator area as soon as they are available.
(They will also be posted on the website after the event).
Certificates are being prepared for all the younger swimmers (6-8)
recording their achievements on the night, these should be
available at club night next week.
If you have any other questions please do email me at clubchamps@dorkingsc.com
Update as at 8th May
Many thanks to all the squad reps for their help in organising
the collection of entry forms despite all the changes to swimming
sessions this week.
A list
of accepted entries in now posted here. Please email
Katrina Pritchard directly (clubchamps@dorkingsc.com)
with details of any errors by 17.5.10. All swimmers should
have an ASA number - ID# - shown next to their name but there are
still many missing. In many cases the forms are being process
but if you have NOT completed a GREEN ASA membership form you MUST
do so URGENTLY. Please see Ros Bailey or speak to your squad
rep.
Please note, given the volume of work involved in preparing
for the sprints, I am not able to make updates to include
times swum at the Guildford meet next weekend.
Very many thanks for all those who have volunteered to help on
the night. We are planning to hold a raffle and would welcome
any contribution however large or small - please bring to the club
desk.
Update as at 30th April
In light of changes to training sessions next week, this is a
reminder that the closing date for entries to the club sprints is
7th May. You can submit your entry form to your squad rep at
any training session next week or directly to Katrina
Pritchard and/or Michelle Hall between 6.30pm and 7pm at Dorking
Sports Centre on 6th May and between 7pm and 8.30pm on 7th
May. We will be processing entries out by the club desk
during these times. Please do not hand entries to
coaches during training sessions. If you want to enter but
can't get to a session next week to hand your form in, please let
your squad rep know and we will do our best to help.
Important Notice re completing your DSC 2010 Sprints
Entry Form:
Many thanks to those swimmers (and parents) who have
already completed entry forms!
The information below is in addition to that provided with the
entry form - the first bit of which is only relevant to swimmers
whose PB is a Long Course Time.
Long Course Times
If you swam at the Surrey Age Group Championships at Crystal Palace
(individual sprints or first leg of relay team*) you may have a PB
which is a Long Course Time (i.e. was swum in a 50m pool). I
have set up Team/Meet Manager to automatically convert these to
Short Course Times (i.e. quicker times) for your entry to the
Sprints. Therefore on your entry form please state your Long
Course Time noting in brackets: LCT Surrey 2010. I will then
select the correct converted time from the Surreys on the system
when processing your entry. (This will also work if your PB
is from another LC Meet - just note which one on your entry form so
I can select it on the system). This will ensure a fair
process for all swimmers using the same conversion formula.
It also means if you have no idea what I am talking about, you can
relax as it will be sorted for you!
(* because of the rolling start the subsequent legs of a relay do
not qualify as PBs and should not be used)
General
With the exception of LCTs detailed above, entry times
should be taken from the PB sheet (or gala results pages if more
recent e.g. Wey League R2). If you do not have an official
time to enter, please write 'NT' (No time) as per instructions on
the entry form. When forms are completed correctly using
times from these sources it takes only a few seconds on the system
to click to accept the times and process the entry ...... as
opposed to about five minutes per form when information is missing
or incorrect! If there is a valid reason for submitting an
alternative time to the recorded PB (e.g. swimmer returning from
injury, new to the club) please note this on your entry form so I
know it is not a mistake! You may (or may not!) be
surprised to know that I regularly get forms that have muddled
times between siblings, strokes and/or distances,so please double
check before handing them in.
Payment and refunds
I know that there are refunds due to many swimmers from
recent opens where Dorking entries have not been accepted. If
you wish to 'offset' Sprint entry fees against any monies owed
please write this clearly on your entry form, detailing the amounts
involved so we can keep track of this process.
